Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Bruno Kalemba has said the trial of five people that are charged with attempted murder of the former Budget Director in the Ministry of Finance Paul Mphwiyo is expected to commence on 5 February, 2014.
Mphwiyo was shot three times at his area 43 residents by unknown thugs on September 13, 2013.
The five, who are facing trial in the September 13 2013 shooting of Mphwiyo, are former Minister of Justice Ralph Kasambara, businessperson Pika Manondo, Dauka Manondo, Robert Kadzuwa and Macdonald Kumwembe.
“All the five suspects will appear in court together to take plea. Disclosures have just been served and 21 days have to elapse so that is why dates for beginning of trial are in this second half of January,” said Kalemba as quoted by the press on Thursday.
The charges for the five include attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
