MPs throw back energy ministry officials: PS should appear before committee
Officials from Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining were sent back by Parliament committee, saying they should appear with their Principal Secretary (PS).

Werani Chilenga, the chairperson of the Parliament’s Natural Resources and Climate Change Committee told the officials that they could not discuss the issues with them as they wanted the PS as a controlling officer to be there.
“We wanted the PS to be here with you,” Chilenga told officials who made themselves available.
According to Chilenga, the ministry officials said the PS was on a tour of duty in China.
“We will wait until he comes back to appear before us,” said Chilenga.
According to Standing Order 136, after the presentation if the budget, parliamentary committees go into breakaway sessions where they scrutinise the proposed allocations each ministry or department presented in the national budget.
