Mpulula fired as Max Bullets coach, replaced with Kulemeka
Controversial and tough spoken coach Leo Mpulula has been fired as Max Bullets coach club chairman has confirmed.
However, Mpulula claims he has not been fired but rather he has stepped down on his own following disagreements with the club management on players contracts.
According to Mpulula, he decided to throw in the towel after his efforts to convince the management to maintain the same squad that graduated from the lower league hit a snug.
The former Epac, Escom, Blantyre United and Epac F.C mentor said among other things, he asked the management to offer all players one year contracts considering the fact that the team currently do not have
stiff financial muscle.
“I told the management led by the owner that we maintain the same squad and give them one year contracts because the club has just graduated from lower league and doesn’t have enough money that it can sign the players for two or three year term with the little money available but they couldnt understand,” said Mpulula.
He also claimed that the owner wanted to fire players who refused to sign contracts with more than one year saying they are lacking discipline.
Mpulula claims the players were offered K100,000.00 signing on fee.
But Mpulula said he cannot work with new players after glooming the current squad since preparations for their elite league preparations started.
On his part, club chairman Gilton Chakhaza refuted Mpulula’s claims that he has resigned.
“I am surprised that he has come to you and claim he has resigned, the truth is that he has been fired and we have already replaced him with Patrick Kulemeka. Suppose he had resigned, do you think we could have already replaced him in a single day?”
On the issue of contracts, Chakhaza said negotiations between the players and club management are still underway.
Mpulula’s departure comes with over just a week before the 2016-2017 Premier Super League (PSL) season kicks off.
Max Bullets secured promotion into the elite league after emerging champions of the Southern Region Football Association League.
