Mpulula start with win, Gilbert resigns as Bullets coach

Civo United have dislodged Escom United at the summit of the TNM Super League after a narrow 1 – 0 victory over Cobbe at home on Saturday.

Lazarus Chirwa’s only strike made sure of maximum points for the civil servants on their way to the top with 18 points, 3 ahead of the electricians who were condemned to their third straight loss to stubborn Blantyre United at the Kalulu stadium.

Brown Mizeya and Jimmy Chikulekule confirmed a blackout and surely coach Charles Manda should go back to the drawing board.

Mpulula: Flying start at Azam Tigers

Escom were resting last weekend after a disastrous outing to the northern region losing to Embangweni and Moyale.

Leo Mpulula had a perfect start as coach for Azam Tigers after his new team humbled Bullets FC 3 – 0 at the Kamuzu stadium.

Bullets offered little to deserve 3 points and were squeezed to size by the hungry Tigers. Charles Ngosi’s brace and another goal from Lumbani Munthali gave Mpulula a dream start after dumping Blantyre United earlier this week.

“It’s a start that any manager would dream of and am happy that we won but still, there is a lot of work to be done if we are to pose a serious challenge to the title,” Mpulula told reporters after the game.

After the game  Bullets FC coach Gilbert Chirwa  resigned verbally.

“I have resigned as coach for Bullets,” said Chirwa. “This was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to take in my football career,” he added.

Bullets officials told Nyasa Times that they are just hearing the news from the grapevine and will make a comment once Chirwa hands in his resignation.

Supporters were heard shouting after the game calling for Chirwa’s removal as coach following this second successive defeat.

Elsewhere, Epac FC were 1 – 0 winners over Embangweni United.

Super League’s current top goal scorer Ishmael Thindwa was on target again to extend his tally to 9 goals.

Zomba United and Red Lions shared the spoils in the Zomba derby. It ended 1 – 1.

Struggling Silver Strikers breathed some life into their game and convincingly beat Mafco 3 – 0 away. Rodrick Gonani, Jester Mulima and Frank Banda did the damage to the soldiers.

Classified TNM Super League results for Saturday:
Embangweni 0 Epac 1
Mafco 0 Silver 3
Civo 1 Cobbe 0
Zomba United 1 Red lions 1
Escom 1 Blantyre United 2
