MRA impounds Axa buses on tax payment failure
Tax collector, the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has impounded two Axa buses which are now at MRA offices in Mzuzu and Lilongwe.
MRA corporate affairs manager Steve Kapoloma confirmed the two buses were impounded from the depots in Mzuzu and Lilongwe.
He said Axa owes MRA some money.
He however could not say how much, saying issues of tax are private and cannot be made public.
An official from Axa accused MRA of exeggerating the money.
“The figures we have are different from those that MRA have so we are discussing,” said the official.
Ironically, the owner of Axa, Mark Katsonga’s wife, Agnes, works for MRA.
Axa is a subsidiary of Agma, Katsonga’s commercial empire.
