The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has made a cheque presentation of K800,000 to the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi. The money will be used to sponsor the Business and Economics Journalist of the Year Awards for both print and electronic media valued at K400,000 each.

The cheque was presented to MISA Malawi’s Mandala Mambulasa at Msonkho House in Blantyre on Friday May 5, 2017.

MRA’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Steven Kapoloma said the support to the media is meant to enhance quality output in business news while raising more awareness on tax matters.

“The media is our partner in making sure that members of the general public know more about tax. MRA is very optimistic that sponsorship of the Business and Economics Journalist of the Year Awards will empower members of the media to come up with professionally crafted stories to enhance Malawi’s socio-economic development,” Kapoloma said.

Mambulasa expressed gratitude to MRA for sustaining its partnership with MISA Malawi.

The World Press Freedom day falls on May 3 and this year’s commemorations here in Malawi will be held in Lilongwe on Saturday, May 6 under the theme ‘Critical Minds for Critical Times’.
