Flames play against Uganda on the Independence day which will be Mtawali’s first test since taking over from fired Young Chimodzi as caretaker coach.

According to details released by Football Association of Malawi (FAM), the team will  go in camp on Sunday 28th June 2015 at the Chiwembe Technical Centre.

Mtawali has recalled to the squad the Mozambique-based goalkeeper Simplex Nthala who will be joined by the fans favourite striker Zicco Mkanda who also ply his trade in that country.

The coach who has made some changes to the squad that lost to Zimbambwe in AFCON 2017 qualifier earlier this month, also included the forgotten goal-poacher, Chiukepo Msowoya on the list.

There is no explanation why Kamwendo who made headlines for refusing to be substituted during the Zimbabwe game, has been left out of the

Mtawali has sine picked Gerald Phiri Senior as his right-hand man for the care taker coaching job of the Malawi Flames saying he.opted for Phiri – who coaches Super League side Azam Tigers -after forming a formidable partnership while working for the Malawi Under-20 national football team which they almost took to the Africa Youth Championship but fell at the last hurdle after losing over two legs to Zambia.

Malawi will use the game to prepare for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for Group L comprising Swaziland, Zimbabwe, who are early pace setters on three points, and Swaziland who anchor the table without a point alongside the Flames.

FAM has since announced that it will hire a permanent coach by this August 1 2015 and applications from Africa and Europe have since started trickling in.

Here is the full list of the 25 man squad:

  1. for ur own information Swaziland won their first game..and are on top with better goal aggregate..do some reserch mate

  2. All the best as you prepare against Uganda. I thought Mhone is undergoing trials in South Africa and cannot be selected for the game on 6th July. Flames woyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  3. Sailesi isn’t a national team material. Malata’s perfomance is just too hectic. Nothing good to write about this so- called goalkeeper of yours who unproffesionally concedes silly goals(Halawa). Chiukepo is also another trash who has recently showed that he can only do better on club level..try to use new blood. It has been long since u started using him. The front (striking force) seem to be very weak and light except the inclusion of Green Harawa whose current perfomance is overwhelming…On the back, its ok if Sankhani will be on bench not forgetting malata. All the more, thumbs up 4 the good selection of midfielders but make sure to mix up the experienced and the new kids on the block……….FLAMES OYEEE

  4. Pakati pokhapo popanda Joseph Kamwendo a Malawi tanama.Joseph ndi munthu waulemu wake ndipo Mpira amautha ngakhale mu game ya ZImbabwe ija inde sanauke bwino koma amasewerabe bwino ndithu zinthu zinangovuta ngakhale ma coach aja munangowalakwira.

  5. Anthu osadziwa mpira amanyoza mapuleya. Muhone has gone to John for trials along side Sulumba. You cant say Mhone is a bad player yet is recognised by many teams outside the country as a good player. For Lucky Malata , unless you are blind. He stood to be the best defender at COSAFA thats why many teams want him. In football, one is prone to make mistakes at some other time. In the Zimbabwe game , Malata was deliberately put on the bench. What happened? Hurry nyirenda who replaced Mlata as a sweeper made a blunder which lead to the first goal. The second goal came in as a result of poor goal keeping by Harawa. Remember that Nthara was dropped because he also conceded silly goals. For me Chiukepo Msowoya has been tried for long. Currently, Green harawa is much better than Chiukepo

  6. I agree with #31 (Masoambeta). Mtawali is not looking healthy in this picture. Of course papita nyengo komabe munthu sumachita kukalamba choncho. Nzosadabwitsadi kuwona kuti mwatengabe mbuzi ya defender ndi goalkeeper. Simunaone ndi kumva za phada zomwe zachitika kangapo mmbuyomu. Mwakalamba msanga

  7. Chimene chimavuta ndi amalawi ndi chimenechi sasunga team timu imene anapanga young ndi team yabwino yofunika kusunga koma apa ayambanso kupanga team ina enawa akufunika under 23 ngati reserve osati nationa team kodi amalawi tinatani

  8. WHERE IS SULUMBA AND MHONE BETTER MAUNDE THAN MALATA AND ALSO DROP MC D HARAWA AND TAKE MZUNI GOAL KEAPER AND BALAKA UYU WA DEDZA YOUNG SOCCER

  9. I hope lucky and mc have been included tp ipromote competition in the camp and not to be featured on the 6th July, otherwise the duo are currently a liability to the flames.

  10. Koma abale timu yimeneyi nkumati yikhoza kuwina ma game?it is not a gud selection of players mumatichititsa manyazi ife mtawali zakukanika basi siya lucky malata siwoyenela national team

  11. Koma tsikuli ndithu mtundu wa amalawi udzakumatchani ndithu inu ma coach a flames ndipo mudzaona ngati mulungu wakondera tsiku limenelo coz ife masapota a flames panopa sitifunanso ngakhale mpang’ono ng’ono pomwe kumvanso za Lucky Malata angakhale mbuzi Dente Mc Donald Harawa akusewereranso flame olo kuitanidwa ku camp kapena kubvala jersey ya flames. Mbuzi zimenezi zinatikwana ife,apa ndipomwe ife taonela kuti inu a Mtawali ndi anzanu a Phiri litmus test yakukanikani.

  12. Amtawali, why Lucky Malata and Mc Donald Harawa, kodi mwaiwala kale kuti ndi mbuzi zomwezi zomwe zatidyetsa manyi zija izi,its good not to onclude them pa line up ngati mukufuna kuti musadzatukunidwe pa 6 July pano coz no eye need not to see them playing for flames anymore.

  13. The inclusion of Lucky Malata and Mac Donald Harawa in the flames squad has put the credibility and integrity of the acting head coach into question and doubt. These are the players who have committed great footballing mediocrity in the face of the local and international soccer fraternity that needs no special eyes to see. In my opinion, Mtawali has failed the first litmus test by including these names in his squad. Komabe tiyeni nazoni popeza amti paja wamisala anawona nkhondo. We are yet to see the line up and the tactics on the pitch. Mwinabe tiwona kusintha. Otherwise, mbuzi zinatichititsa manyazi zija ndizomwezibe basi.

  14. Harawa ndi Lucky Malata achoke.. kodi mmafuna kuti muchite kuona magazi nkumasintha zinthu..

  18. Good choice for assistant coach. You will be talking one language chifukwa mpira wanu manayambira kusewra limodzi pa Chilomoni Catholic Ground. Its Chilomoni L.E.A. Along side Chilomoni Catholic. Koma. Gereld jnr mwamusiyiranji? Mwana uja ali Boh.

  19. MWATENGA BOO KOMA PA GOLOBOYI HALAWA NDI LUCKY MWATILAKWILA MUKUYENELA KUKAWAYAMBITSA BEANCH AMATIKHUMUDWITSA KWAMBIRI KODI INU MA MWATIIMILIRA NGATI MA FRAMES MUMAKONDA KUTIKHUMUDWITSA KUMAPETO CHIFUKWA CHIYANI?ZISAONEKEEEEEEEE!

  20. Mecium & Gerard are important assets to the national team, recall them if it is possible otherwise good luck .

  21. Guinea and Malawi anchor the group and not Malawi and Swaziland. Mhone is not as good people think. V zim ankangomenya kuti achinye olo kuli kutali. Poor boy

    1. Mukunena zoona amwene. Player wa nzeru samangomenyapo ma shot mulimonse ngati mmene ankapangira Mhone game ya Zim. Zimangowonetsa kusakhwima maganizo komanso kupanda luso lenileni la mpira. Ndikanakhala Mtawali sindingatenge player ngati Mhone

  22. welcome back Chancy Vinny Gondwe, you deserve to be part of technical team of Flames, I can’t wait to see Lawrence Lule Waya, Where is Lenzo Malunga, is he still running from the crime he committed decades ago?? There is need to recall forgeotten football legends to come & help the flames, yes Malawi can do great, akulu akulu ndi mdambo mozimira moto.

  23. Anyamata inuyo mupulula basi. Panopa Uganda ili mu form zedi. Simanyi anu mwatengawa ozithira zigoli wokha. Joze walakwa kamodzi wasidwa. Lucky Malata ndi kabwerebwere wa kulakwa pa garaundi mwamutenga. DZiko limenelo. A Malawi timaganiza mozondoka zedi. Choncho sitingapite patsogolo ngakhale feudalism itabwera.

  24. no sharp strikers. where are the mhones, phiri jr, sulumba and other young talents. chiukepo, malata ndi harawa mwawatengera kuwaopa?! mpira oyendera mphamvu unatha. the squad needs to be revised or else it will the same pattern that malawi has been following. mtawali, come up with a squad that is your own making osati ya copy and paste. otherwise, if malawi fails to impress on 6th july, you will be the one giving an account. you are a good coach. you just need to detatch yourself from unnecessary influence and noise. God bless Malawi, aGod bless Mtawali.

  25. Why Harawa again instead of calling Charles swim ,Harawa is not a good goalkeeper please
