Mukhito urges police officers to support IG Dzonzi
Out-going Inspector General of Police, Peter Mukhito, has congratulated his successor, one of the longest serving officers in the Malawi Police Service (MPS), Commissioner Loti Dzonzi, and called on all officers to give him support
Malawi’s new President Joyce Banda appointed Dzonzi as the new Inspector General of Police on Sunday replacing Mukhito who becomes the first casualty of the post Bingu wa Mutharika era.
In a statement circulated to all police formations in Malawi, Mukhito said : “The outgoing Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Mr. Peter Mukhito (PPM) and Madam Chance Mukhito would like to congratulate Mr. L.T.P. Dzonzi for his promotion to the rank of Inspector General of Police with effect from 8th. April 2012. ”
Mukhito thanked “ all Commissioners, Senior/Junior officers and their spouses for the support rendered to them during their tenure of office. “
He appealed for officer “to fully support Mr. L.T.P Dzonzi, during his leadership. May the almighty God bless you all and the entire Malawi Police Service.”
Mukhito has been fired barely a day after Banda assumed office as Malawi’s Head of State, following the death of Mutharika on April 5 due to a cardiac arrest.
The Malawi police service has about 8,000 officers.
