DPP’s George Chaponda, MCP’s Richard Chimwendo Banda, and UDF’s Ned Poya are set to meet and establish a multi-partisan parliamentary committee to investigate the violence that occurred at Parliament on Wednesday.

Speaker Catherine Gotani Hara

The committee will be tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident where tires of vehicles belonging to some DPP members of parliament were deflated.

Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda has agreed with Thyolo Central MP Ben Phiri’s call for a thorough investigation, stating that both government and opposition members will be included in the committee.

“You can select members from both the government and opposition sides to review the CCTV footage and identify those responsible,” said Chimwendo Banda.

George Chaponda, Leader of the Opposition, has also supported the proposal.

Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara has requested Chaponda, Chimwendo Banda, and UDF representatives to submit two names each for inclusion in the committee to review the CCTV footage and investigate the incident.

Ben Phiri has reiterated the need to review CCTV footage as part of the inquiry, emphasizing the importance of identifying those responsible for the violence.
