MultiChoice Malawi unveils Telemundo

Multichoice Malawi has made a giant step in its provision of home entertainment by introducing a 24-hour telenovela channel for its DStv and GOtv subscribers effective August 12, 2013.

The new channel dubbed Telemundo is available on GOtv Plus as well as on DStv Access, Family, Compact, Compact Plus and Premium bouquets.

Telemundo comes barely three months after Multichoice also unveiled Supersport 2 Select and M-Net Movies Zone for its GOtv subscribers.

According to Multichoice Africa’s Chief Executive Officer, Nico Meyer, the launch of Telemundo forms part of MultiChoice Africa’s commitment to provide viewers in Africa with a wide channel line-up and to ensure that they have a broad variety of genres to choose from.

“We are delighted to be launching Telemundo as it increases the range of programming available to DStv and GOtv subscribers. Telenovelas are a popular entertainment format and we want to provide a dedicated channel where subscribers can go to find this kind of programming,” he said.

In his remarks, Multichoice Malawi Sales and Marketing Manager, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, explained that Multichoice was excited to bring Telemundo to its viewers.

“Telemundo is a 24 hour telenovela channel that offers a wide range of themes for the whole family from talented actors and actresses in the telenovela industry. Telemundo will bring the world of exotic locations and glamorous personalities into the homes of our viewers,” he said.

Nyirenda added that viewers can look forward to fascinating stories of love, success and betrayal with high quality production values in telenovelas.

“The launch of the channel underlines our passion to offer our subscribers with wide range of entertainment. Telemundo will be offering DStv and GOtv customers a dramatic rollercoaster of romance, mystery, action and adventure,” he pointed out.

It  will be available on DStv channel 118 while on GOtv Plus it will be available on channel 13.

Telemundo will be fully localised for the African market with full dubbing of Spanish-language programming in English for South Africa and Sub-Saharan countries.

Telemundo becomes the fifth channel brand from Universal Networks International to launch in Africa, joining the recently refreshed channels – Universal Channel, E! Entertainment Television, The Style Network and Studio Universal.
