The awards, inaugurated in 2013, are being jointly organized by MediaCorp Limited, a multi-media consultancy firm, and Trocadero Consulting, a public relations and events management company in partnership with the Musicians Union of Malawi, formally the Musicians Association of Malawi.

“The coming in of LoS team, to offer technical support to the awards event, promises to make this edition even bigger and more exciting as the team brings the vast experience and expertise that has for years seen the LoS growing its reputation into one of the most respectable music events both locally and internationally,” reads the statement made available to Nyasa Times.

The organisers said the list of nominees in each of the categories will be announced and the voting process will be opened.

Seven judges will be involved in coming up with the final five artists in each category.

The judges include veteran singer and broadcaster Maria Chidzanja Nkhoma and ethnomusician Waliko Makhala. The other judges are DJs Kenny Klips, Maya and Jean Chalungama, Journalist and columnist Penelope Paliani-Kamanga and Music Crossroads Malawi Director Mathews Mfune.

“Inaugurated in 2014 as the Musicians Association of Malawi Music Awards (MAMMA), the awards have since been rebranded and the name changed to Music Malawi (MUMA) Awards to reflect the overall mission and vision of the Awards,” reads the statement.

Despite this change, the organisers promise to keep the awards as a premier outlet for honoring achievements in the local music industry and supporting local musicians to realize their full potential and dreams.

The mission for the MUMA Awards is to positively impact on the growth of the local music industry through recognizing, encouraging, nurturing and supporting overall professional excellence and the best of Malawi’s local music talent.
