International Organization for Relief, Welfare and Development under the secretariat of the Muslim World League, Dr. Mohamed A.A. Issa has donated 1,000 bags of floor to hunger stricken people in the area of Traditional Authority Kilupula in Karonga district.
Speaking after making the donation on Thursday, a representative of the Muslim World League, Rafeeq Walid Mosbah said his organization thought of making the donation after being told by government that many Malawians are in dire need of food assistance.
“We are deeply concerned with drought and floods that swept away hectares of crops here. We know the 1000 bags weighing 25kgs, that we have brought today are not enough, but it will still assist some of you in one way or the other,” he said.
Mosbah then assured the people that his organization will continue working with government in distributing relief items to affected people across the country.
Member of Parliament for the area, Mungasulwa Mwambande who is also deputy minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining thanked the Muslim World League for the donation saying it has come at the right time when people are in dire need of food.
“Let me thank you and the government for coming to Karonga with these relief items. We know floods and drought did not only occur in Karonga but also in some districts, but to have you here today, we really say thank you,” he said.
Mwambande urged the beneficiaries to use the flour for the intended purpose and not sell it.
