Muslims Association of Malawi condemns abuse of hijab wearing women at political parties

The Muslims Association of Malawi (MAM) has  condemned abuse of hijab wearing Muslim women at political parties and government has also added its voice to the matter as Presidential adviser on religious affairs, apostle Timothy Khoviwa, wondered why Muslim women were doing that when Christian women do not wear their religious gear at political rallies.

MAM Secretary General, Alhaj Twaibu Lawe during celebration of Eid – al – Adha prayers in Mangochi on Friday saying Muslims were free to join any political party of their choice but that they should not mix the religion and politics.

“MAM’s stand is that everyone is free to join a political party of their choice but that when they go to such gatherings, there should a clear separation between politics and religious stuff,” he said.

Lawe pointed out that it was not possible for all Muslims in the country to belong to one political party as some political parties would like people to believe.

“For someone to come in the open and claim that all Muslims or indeed all Sheikhs are behind him or belong to one political party is not true and it is impossible,” he said.

“We are in multiparty dispensation where everyone has the right to join a party of his or her choice,” Lawe added.

During the celebrations, MAM chairperson Sheikh Muhammad Idrissah donated K1 million to the organising committee to settle some of the bills incurred during preparations of the event.

The sheikh is not condemning the wearing of hijabu perse or literally, rather he is against the motives of those women. They are portraying themselves as Muslim women of the party other than just party goers or party supporters.

It is not your duty to point finger on that because every Malawian has his or her choice of dressing and more over she is obeying the command of Allah so who are you?

I think the those women who wear Hijab at political gatherings are not wrong because Islam encourages Muslim women to cover their heads and face leaving only spaces for some organs like eyes. So what are you talking here. It is only hijab that can do that covering. Timothy Khoviwa is just commenting on things which he doesn’t know its base at all.

Bro you are right the problem is that our leaders dont really know the meaning of religion and politics and the relationship between them. May Allah guide them.

To say kuti tisavale is not true considering that we are supposed to be in hijab always. In other words mukutiuza kuti tisapite ku misonkhano, which is unfair. Unlike other religious groups which put on their regalia during worship times only, we, muslim women are supposed to be in hijab always. Mwina mwasintha malamulo a MAM. Tiziwitseni ngati zili choncho. Or just tell us kuti tisamapite ku misonkhano fullstop

I choose to disagree, these ladies in the picture are not hijab addicts. If you look closely their hijab is more of a uniform purposely put on for the function and not out of taqwa. I believe this is what the muslim leaders are condeming. Otherwise putting on hijab need to be a behaviour everywhere.

Muslim women are supposed to wear hijab at ALL times. So do you expect them to remove the hijab when going to a political rally. This sheik must be fake
