Mutharika declares to win way above 50+1 majority threshold: Upbeat with DPP-UDF alliance

President Peter Mutharika has told  Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters in Lilongwe that the party’s torchbearer will win with a landslide if the Supreme Court of Appeal does not reverse the Constitution Court judgement for fresh presidential elections which Parliament has set to take place on May 19 2020.

Mutharika was speaking a day after sealing the deal of an electoral alliance with the first biggest party in Malawi’s democracy, United Democratic Front  (UDF) which booted Malawi Congress Party  (MCP) from a 30-year dictatorship in 1994.

He has since expressed gratitude to supporters of the DPP in the Central region for not giving up hope even in the face of hard times.

President Mutharika said DPP supporters in the central region are strong-hearted who have genuine love for their party and have shown this love by coming out in large numbers to demonstrate against what he called “democratic injustice.”

Mutharika was speaking at the gates of Kamuzu Palace where thousands of DPP supporters gallantly marched for court justice in Lilongwe.

The call for fresh elections follows a court judgment which many in the DPP believe to be a conspiracy and judicial coup to remove Mutharika from power after failing to defeat the ruling party in an election.

President Mutharika urged the supporters to maintain peace and order during this time when the country will be going to a fresh election.

“I urge you my friends to remain committed to the ideals of democracy, and the pillars of our government which are hardwork, integrity and patriotism. Lets remain united during these times,” said Mutharika.

On the alliance with UDF, the President said the union has come at the right time, and promised that the DPP will win the elections with a big margin.

“Let me promise you that with this alliance with the UDF, we’ll win these elections again with a landslide,” he promised.

The DPP entered into an alliance with the UDF, a development that has excited supporters from both parties.

  1. This man has no speck of humanity left in him looking at how he’s left his own people in gruelling poverty.
This man is so corrupt that he’s let his small circle enjoy with him riches from stolen public funds at the peril of every poor Malawian.
Yet, he’s got the audacity to stand there talking gibberish ngati chilipo chabwino chimene waapangira a Malawi.
Kllibiletu infrastructure yooneka to attract investors, education standards are at all time low, healthcare is at its worst eversince Nyasaland became Malawi, price of staple food is extremely high that a commoner can’t afford to the point where a fellow citizen, Bushiri, had to intervene, sanitation is still poor, corruption is rampant, electricity and Water supply outtages are the order of the day, high unemployment is a norm.
Ndi Chani chomwe chikukulimbitsa mtima Pitala ndi kankono kako kothyokako kuima ndikumalankhula izizi? Uli ndi umunthu iwe?

Amalawinso ndi kupepela kwanji standing there applauding and ululating to the mumbo jumbo he’s spewing?
Malawians, wake up. The foolishness and greed for short-term results will leave you and your children poor for the rest of your lives. Think about your children. Think about the future. This has to change. This cannot go on.

This is a very nasty old and frail man on his way to the grave and he wants to take 17 million plus Malawians with him.
And yes Peter will indeed have a landslide. A landslide to the mortuary.

  2. That’s the trouble with having a country full of illiterate people with nothing to do. Ferry them from elsewhere and make them match in Lilongwe. Sadly this will not add any votes to this stinking party. It’s doomed.

  3. It beggars belief that M Hetherwick Ntaba after being named in connection with albino killings (which even led to the case being transferred to Blantyre from Zomba because his judge niece couldn’t continue presiding over), is still walking around free as if nothing has happened. HRDC where are your priorities? Instead of closing MEC offices, when it is quite clear that these commissioners cannot conduct the next presidential election, you should be fighting for the rights of those who got murdered senselessly by making sure these suspects are brought to book. That is not to forget the case of Mr Buleya Lule, killed in police custody. Suspects were named in that connection, but where is the justice. I say it once again, HRDC, WHERE ARE YOUR PRIORITIES??

  4. APM the great hero of Africa – one of the best Democratic Presidents in the World this is why I love HIM so much – he has been insulted, provoked, molested, intimidated, character assasined but he has chosen to humble himsel lowerly like a Sheep., Surely, I see him being uplifted by the hand of GOD the only true GOD who choses leaders of his choice. Likened to the story of JESUS & BARNABAS many people chose Barnabas a (MURDERER) to be set free and let JESUS the SON of GOD to be crucified on the cross. But surely everything has got time, Time to SOW and Time to REAP, Time to DESTROY and Time to BUILD, Time to CRY and Time to LAUGH, Time to be SAD and Time to ENJOY but God has CONTROL over ALL these situations. It’s my sincere prayer that GOD should always bless our LEADERS those in AUTHORITY and those in OPPOSITION because they are chosen by GOD for a purpose. May God bless MALAWI and our LEADERS and each one of US in JESUS’ Amen!!!!

    1. Please dont say much till the battle is over. the day to say this is coming just soon after 19th May 2020 not now.

  5. Anthu opusa komanso opanda chifundo. Nkhondwe ya chimanga kumayenda nawo mu galimoto anthu akufa ndinjala mmamidzimu? Ndiye anthu oganiza bwino asekerere zimenezo zowona? As for APM, I think he is too old to talk coherently.

  6. We don’t buy someone to demonstrate but someone must have a will of demonstrating. If you are saying you shall win with 50+1 why were you afraid to amend the bill with your MPs?

      1. kodi aja amapanga ma DEMO a MCP/UTM/HRDC anali amu Lilongwe? anthu amachoka mu Dedza and other sorrounding areas.Mukanena nkhani yopatsidwa ndalama sizachilendo even ma demo anu aja anthu amapitako kut akapindule/akabe

  7. Cadet koma ndiye walemba…osavutika azavota ndi anthu…landslide siiyi mwayiyamba kale kukonzekera kubera kudzera kuja lolembetsera ziphatso…

  8. My worry is on the ignorance of the reporter who thinks in Malawi we have ruling parties. The Constitution is quite clear on our system of government

  9. There has been so much SILENCE for all those who plotted to rape our constitution. The people who bribed judges are QUIET. Even the judges and Speaker Gotani have NO PEACE when they see what has happened in Lilongwe today.

    1. Who wanted to bribe judges imbecile Papaya? Is it not people connected to Mutharika or Mutharika himself? Why are people like you not having their eyes wide open and their ears free of clogging? You think you can come up with a fake allegation against judges and yet you are the ones dying to stay in power crookedly? Mind you , the case against Mpinganjira and others connected to DPP is not closed but is still in the dockets and active. Stop unnecessary propaganda that will have no good ending for your party.

  10. DPP you are moving in the right direction, lets share the national cake with our partners so we can all prosper and be happy!

  11. Kodi amalawi akavota chifukwa cha alliance or mwina chifukwa chachutukuko, yemwe angatukule living standards ya amalawi.Ndikusaganiza, Kumango ganiza zo wina ndi landslide or winning with a big margin. Malawians should learn to vote for a person who can improve living standards. In 2019 mumati mudzawina with a big margin, zinakanika, munabera ndikufika 38%.Pano mukulotaso Za big margin, kupanda kusamala alliance yanu yidza piza10%.Some malawians are tired with you.The truth is anyone voting for this DPP and UDF alliance Saganiza.Umphawi Uli tho ndiye muziti you will win with landslide.Zikadzakanika muzaberanso chifukwa kuluza mudzapanga misala ndithu.

  12. You’re encouraging the people you paid to demonstrate. They were actually at the gates of state House late in the evening demanding their money for demonstrating for you. Paranoid idiot

  13. People in malawi are mostly jobless which eventually lenders them useless, beggars, bad-decision-makers and unpredictable. How can a bunch of people with purpose in life just go around chasing shadows of politicians yet themselves are stinking poverty and hunger ending up go home and sleep on an empty stomach? This shows how hopeless our country is, forgetting that politics is the career of those people they are following unpurposely and after making senseless noise and swearing at other politicians they get paid- what about you? Unfortunately it’s the same bunch of people who will be in the streets, and in numbers, stinking poverty again when the opposition organise their own march tomorrow. So mr president (atleast for now) don’t be fooled by those people as dpp supporters it’s the same who voted massively for mcp 10 months ago and they will vote for it again come may!!!

  14. The supporters were actually Lilongwe and central region based members of Mulako wa Lomwe except for Jean Kalilani and Ntaba and their immediate families. There was no one from Msundwe

  15. The good thing about this alliance is that Atupele will become the president because God is going to love Mutharika

    1. @Imran, nanunso mmutu mwanumo mwadzadza mamina, u think a Malawi ambiri akumufuna Mutharika olo Atupere wakoyo, they are all dunderheads, this alliance is useless palibe aphulepo. mark my words well well.

      1. Kodi a Malawi ndi atii? chifumba wa mademo ndi anzake amti a Malawi , uyu chatsika wa LlCP amatinso aMalawi, kodi a Malawiwa ali magulu alipo magulu angati?

  16. Last elections you talked about landslide but you flopped and ended up being aided by Tipex alterations to favor you. Do you think Atupele will bring you tonnes of votes?

This old man is very arrogant and yet fails to uplift people’s lives. He is too regionalistic and is not a unifier. His speeches are very polarizing and has no statesmanship in him.

It would be a grave mistake to entrust Mutharika with a new mandate at state house.

Partnering Atupele is a calculated move to want to separate the south from other candidates, but it will backfire. These two families of Muluzi and Mutharika are a stubborn tumor to the country and have caused a lot of miseries to Malawians. They need to face a political burial together.

  17. Agogo still dreaming. And yes old man, you will indeed win with landslide like last time, kikikikiiiiiiii. No tippex this time mind you.

  18. Koditu paja before 21st May insli operation landslide nkuzangobera Chisankho nkuthera pa 36 or 38% whatever it was so whats new that Mutharika can come & say that he will win with 50+1 votes????? Palibepo zimenezo. Presidential Bote is a Popular Vote in other words. Is Old, senile Mutharika popular???? I beg to differ. With 50+1 we need National Parties now. Not Mulhako Wa Alhomwe turned into Paryy then it mudt impose itself into Malawians. A Big No. President must win with botes from all corners of the country.
