Malawi President Peter Mutharika has asked what he described as ‘fault finder’s not to poke their nose sniffing the source of money he has used in hosting a pre-Christmas party for children drawn from different churches and organizations in the capital city Lilongwe at Kamuzu Palace on Wednesday.

Speaking during the party which was covered live on state broadcaster MBC, the visibly annoyed Mutharika said there was no penny from government coffers used during the event.

“The event has been sponsored by me, the first lady and some well-wishers,” said Mutharika.

“ There is no one tambala for the government. I don’t want mawa somenbody kumati, ‘fwee, fwee, fwee, fwee, ndipanga demonstrations and so forth there is no government money here involved,” said Mutharika.

Mutharika emphasized to the children that the message was not for them.

“I was talking this to outsiders not you my children but to some people who want to find fault in everything somebody does. There is no single tambala from the government,” he said.

Mutharika told the children that it high time they start dreaming about becoming the President.

“I started having ambition of becoming a president when I was five years old. For you this is the right time to start having such an ambition,” said Mutharika.

He said his administration will ensure that the children are protected and warned that he will punish those who will be violating the rights of the children in the country.

Activities started at noon with children singing songs, reciting poems and Biblical verses.

In her speech, the First Lady Madam Gertrude Mutharika has expressed her gratitude to different churches that accepted the invitation to bring children to the party.
