President Professor Peter Mutharika was joined by former president Bakili Muluzi, vice president Saulos Chilima and senior government officials at the installation of Mavuto Ahmed Gowelo as Traditional Authority Kapoloma in Machinga district on Saturday, December 6.
The President urged chiefs to work with the government so that they effectively contribute towards the country’s socio-economic development.
He observed that chiefs had a vital role in the implementation of projects such as the Farm Input Subsidy Program-FISP, hence the need to closely work with Government.
“Let us work together to develop the nation,” the President urged.
In an interview with Nyasa Times, former president Muluzi commended President Mutharika for ensuring that chiefs are part of government’s development agenda and promoting national unity.
“Together we can develop this country, the President needs our support,” he said.
Gowelo — a nephew to the late chief— has replaced late Kamulanje Kamala who died on 2nd November, 2006 and was laid to rest on 3rd November, 2006.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
