Mutharikain first trip abroad: Leaves for US Friday
Malawi president Peter Mutharika is expected to leave on Friday for the United States of America (USA) for the US-African leaders summit scheduled for August 4-6 in Washington DC which will be the President’s first trip outside the country since his election in May.
Mutharika will visit the US at the invitation of US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, the State House has announced in a statement issued deputy press secretary Timpuza Mwansambo.
The summit will focus on “Investing in the next generation” as a theme and how leaders can together sustain African transformation.
During the summit Mutharika will among other things participate in a number of signature events which include; Resilience and Food Security in a Changing Climate and the US-Africa Business Forum.
The President is expected to leave through Kamuzu International Airport at 16:00 hours.
