Mutharika’s funeral cloth costs K21m

Malawi Government has produced funeral cloth for the late president Bingu wa Mutharika and K21 million (about $125 748)   has been spent on it.

Tax payers’ money has helped government to produce 50 000 metres of the cloth which is distributed to political parties, churches, family members and women civil servants who used to dance for Mutharika and many more people.

Chairman of the ministerial committee for the funeral Henry Mussa said the distribution of the cloth would not be a problem because it would be done through various institutions such as churches, political parties and an organ in the Office of the President and Cabinet.

“The cloth will be distributed to the churches, especially to the choirs and the public particularly those close to the bereaved family,” said Mussa.

Mutharika who died on April 5 will be laid to rest on April 23.
