Mvula, Gombwa to appear in court Friday: Malawi Police call them ‘hardcore criminals’
Four suspects described as hardcore criminals by police in Blantyre have been charged with murder, robbery with violence and carjacking by a magistrate court and they are expected to plead in the High Court in Lilongwe this Friday.
Blantyre police deputy publicist confirmed that Dumisani Mvula, son to renowned political and social commentator Humphrey Mvula, Dickson Mangombe, Andy Machinjiri and Chipiliro Gombwa will this Friday appear before judge Kenyatta Nyirenda to take plea.
She said the Blantyre Magistrate Court committed the four to the High Court because the lower court did not have authority to try murder cases.
The four suspects are accused of killing three persons whose vehicles were hijacked and are also accused of hijacking seven cars.
The police said the suspects were found with 260 rounds of ammunition, a pistol and a gun pump.
Several people including a police officer and a musician were also arrested in connection with the sale of arms to the suspects.
Mvula is aged 23, Magombe is aged 35, Gombwa is aged 35 and Machinjiri is 29.
