Mwafulirwa back to Jomo Cosmos

Malawian international striker Russell Mwafulirwa has returned to Jomo Cosmos and has joined the rest of the squad in training, with the Jomo Sono-led outfit looking to sign the player.

Cosmos’ spokesperson, Lucky Mhlathe, said he lanky Malawian international  has been given an offer and he is expected to pen a deal with the club, according to Soccer Laduma.

Since his return from Sweden, the 28-year-old has been bouncing around to different clubs in the South Africa’s Premier Soccer Leagu, in search of a contract. He started at Cosmos before moving to Kaizer Chiefs and then Moroka Swallows.

Mwafulirwa: Back at Cosmos

He then returned to Cosmos whereafter he surfaced at Swallows once again, although he is now back at Cosmos the current ABSA PSL basement side, where it all started.

On Wednesday he trained with Swallows but Thursday he returned to Jomo Cosmos where he started his South African career after joining them from Silver Strikers in Malawi.

On Thursday Swallows boss Leon Prins was quoted by the Sowetan that they had made a strong bid to lure Mwafulirwa to the Birds nest.

“I had a meeting with Russel where we gave him an offer to join us,” Prins said.

Prims said however that negotiationswith Mwafulirwa over a contract was unsuccessful.

“We are not signing him. We failed to agree on terms,” says Prins to Kickoff.

Mwafulirwa returned back to South Africa recently after spending three seasons in Sweden with IFK Norrkoping.
