Mwafulirwa linked with Moroka Swallows

Towering Malawi national team striker Russel Mwafulirwa was spotted at the South African Premier League Moroka Swallows training ground in Dobsonville and is believed to be joining the club.

Mwafulirwa is a free agent after his contract with Swedish club IFK Norrkoping expired recently.

The former Silver Strikers hitman played for Jomo Cosmos and Ajax Cape Town in South Africa  before signing with Norrkoping in 2008.

Russel: Free agent

Mwafulirwa was seen engaged in a lengthy conversation with Gordon Igesund, his former coach at Ajax Cape Town.

Soccer Laduma reported that the 28-year-old player said the purpose of his visit at the training was to keep in touch with his friends.

“I went there to watch my friends Macbeth (Sibaya) and Lefa (Tsutsulupa) train. I had a chat with Gordon and who knows? I’m a free agent and I’ve got my clearance,” said Mwafulirwa, according to Soccer Laduma.

Igesund confirmed the striker’s presence at their training session but he refused to add anything to that.

Mwafulirwa arrived in South Africa recently responding to the interest shown in him by Jomo Cosmos, but the club and the player’s agent have failed to agree on terms.
