Mwayi voted ‘player of the year’ in Aussie

Malawi’s netball export to Europe, Mwayi ‘Professor’ Kumwenda has been voted best player for 2010-2011 for the club.

Kumwenda has been consistent in most of the competitive matches she featured for Australian’s Pennisula Waves by scoring many baskets comparing with any other player at the club.

In a Facebook interview with Nyasa Times , Kumwenda described her recognition as a stepping stone to her ambition.

“I thank God for this recognition because it is not a joke to be selected the best player for the entire season in a foreign land. This award will inspire me to work more extra harder,” said Kumwenda, who is on off-season.

The former Escom Sisters evergreen shooter also encouraged her fellow Malawian netballers to put much effort in their career in order to ply their trade abroad.

“It’s a matter of working hard and putting God first. We have many talented netballers at home and my advice to them is never give up,” she said.

Kumwenda is one of Malawi’s top netballers, who are currently in top form.

Apart from the Malawian shooter, other players, who received medals from the club, are Emma Sommerville, who was named most improved player.
