Mzuni beat Civo 1-0 to bolster staying up plan: Malawi TNM Super League
Mzuni FC on Saturday beat Civo United 1-0 at their backyard Mzuzu Stadium in a result that shores up the students ambition to stay up in the flagship TNM Super League next season.
It is too early but the students win restores their confidence after a back-to-back defeats last weekend—losing 2-0 to Nyasa Big Bullets and another 2-0 to Tigers FC.
On Saturday, the students were a little sharper and eventually scored the vital goal in the second hakf through Victor Gondwe header after connecting a well taken corner kick by Deco Nyemera who came in for Smith Kadawasi.
Civo started to make more of an impression as the game wore on, pressing Mzuni who took a back seat.
Mzuni introduced veteran striker Russel Mwalfuriwa whose experience provided the student s finished more brighter.
Coach for Mzuni, Alex Ngwira, said he was glad his team has got back to winning ways.
“It is nice to get back to winning. We will maintain the run,” he said.
His Civo counterpart, Pofera Jegwa said his players “lost intensity and did not take care of little details”.
