Bello who was former treasure for the club in the 2010-2012 football season was elected at the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place at the university’s main lecturer room on Friday.

He defeated the club’s strategist and former chairperson Albert Mtungambera Harawa by 52-48 votes that saw delegates that included football players, members of staff taking part in choosing a new leader.

“I am not angry for losing the votes. Do you see any sign of bitterness or didIoi walkout after the results were announced. I have accepted the results,” Harawa said.

“ To me, people have spoken that they do not want me, so I  have accepted the result,” Harawa who graduated the team from the Simama Premiere League to the flagship Super League and is also reported to have brought the former Flames’ coach Kinnah ‘Electric’ Phiri at the club, said.

He pledged to support Bello.

Presiding officer Golden Msosa described the election a close contest, free and fair but he assured the delegates that the ballot papers would be kept for three months in case of queries.

The Malawi National referees’ vice president Alex Mbale who represented the Super League of Malawi alongside the Mighty Be Forward Wanderers’ Northern Region Chief supporter Lifa Andrew Phiri including retired footballer and former Northern Region Football Association’s fixture secretary Dominic ‘Kambewa’ Msowoya, congratulated Bello and his team for being elected.

On his part, Bello, thanked delegates for entrusting him with the post of chairperson .

“Honestly, I feel humbled to be handed such a trust and I will pay back the goodies”, Bello told the delegates who looked over the moon.

But while partly unveiling his strategic plan as Mzuni battles for another successful season in the 2016 TNM super league from April 17, Bello said the priority will be addressing the players’ well-fare to ensure they are motivated enough for them to effectively deliver and remain with their heads over the water.

He, however, appealed for support from fellow club members if they are to deliver the good results northerners want.

The position of the vice chairman went to Wales Singini unopposed. Khumbo Kumwenda also went unchallenged on the position of the General Secretary .

But accounts man Thom Kanzangaza won the hearts of many when he went unchallenged on the post of the treasure. Michael Mwandida Manda is the vice treasure after he defeated Edson Makiyi.

Committee members include the only woman Agness Mzumara, while William Chibambo, Baxter Chirambo, Dan Harawa and Dan Mwakasoko are all men. Mwakasoko is the current Mzuni FC supporters’ chairperson.

48-52 is never a rejection; it is a mathematical difference. The manner of your conceding defeat is humbling, my brother, Albert. People with a heart like this have a future. I wish you well great man & servant
