Mzuni FC tipped to be the dark horse of the season

Soccer pundits in the North have tipped rookies Mzuzu FC to be a dark horse for the upcoming TNM Super League season expected to kick off this Saturday.

The students based side narrowly escaped the chop from the TNM sponsored league by a whisker of a lion last season on goal difference with Dedza Young Soccer.

Speaking to Malawi News Agency, one of the renowned football analysts, Uchindami Kaira, said Mzuni should not be underrated this season as they have assembled a strong squad full of experienced players, hence a threat to the bigger sides.

“Mzuni have the attributes of having a great season. They showed a glimpse of it when they dismantled Be Forward Wonderers back end of last season 3-0. They have a great fighting spirit and a strong will to win,” he said.

He said he could not see Mzuni dropping points unnecessarily with the boosting up of their squad with experienced brands of Russell Mwafulirwa and former Silver Strikers’ midfield maestro Lazarus Deco Nyamera.

However, former Malawi National Team defender, Elvis Kafoteka, has a contrary view, saying the loss of Kina Phiri will affect them (Mzuni FC), as they will miss the technical expertise that he offered to the club during his spell as the technical director there last season.

On his part, Mzuni FC Coach Alex Ngwira has expressed optimism that his side will have a good season.

“We are geared up for kick off, this time around we have had a good preparation and we are ready. Our objective is not to fight relegation, but rather battle for at least the top half of the table finish,” he said.

Mzuni FC kick-off their 2016 league campaign on Saturday with a tough trip to Salima to face Army outfit Mafco who finished the last campaign second behind Nyasa Big Bullets.
