Mzuzu Diocese fundraising dinner, dance Friday: Malawi VP Chilima to attend

State Vice President Saulos Chilima will  attend a dinner and dance at Chatonda Lodge hosted by Mzuzu Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church on Friday to raise funds for establishment and renovation of parishes in the diocese.

Veep Chilima to be guest of honour

Office of the vice president confirmed that Chilima will be amongst the patrons at the event.

Diocesan Treasurer General, Father Tony Mfune, said some parishes are having many congregants hence the need to open new ones.

“For example, there is a long distance between Ekwendeni and Mpherembe hence the need for us to establish a parish at Mpherembe as well,” he said.

Father Mfune further said some areas have no houses for the clergy despite having churches.

“For instance, at Chibavi and Katoto, churches are there but there are no priest houses and even proper toilets,” he said, adding that even the buildings themselves need renovation.

About K3 million is expected to be raised during the fundraising dinner and dance.

The event which will start at 7 pm will be spiced up by a raffle draw, pottery selling and a performance by Chilimba Band.

Having comment on the Vice president as an individual, let me wish the catholics in Mzuzu Diocese well as they are preparing for this fundraising. This is great!

The biggest problem which is I see in the Vice President is that he only attends Catholic functions only as far as church events are concerned. It ‘s very rare to find the vice president Saulos Chilima supporting other churches. We know he is a catholic but he must remember that he is the vice presidents of the Republic of Malawi in which there are both catholic followers and non catholic Christians. I have a very strong feeling that he can not make a good president of this nations if elected.

Why then is he so passive and non-supportive of the party as it is busy fighting bye-elections? He is more into the church than into what brings bread on his table. Does he want to continue enjoying that which he doesn’t fight for? Mmmmmmm Mr Chilima, do something. Remember that you are a politician. Azichita kukuposani Mia please? Why are you leaving the fight to APM alone? Remember Chalamanda of Blantyre City.. He forgot the power of unity, the… Read more »
