Mzuzu Diocese fundraising dinner, dance Friday: Malawi VP Chilima to attend

State Vice President Saulos Chilima will  attend a dinner and dance at Chatonda Lodge hosted by Mzuzu Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church on Friday to raise funds for establishment and renovation of parishes in the diocese.

Office of the vice president confirmed that Chilima will be amongst the patrons at the event.

Diocesan Treasurer General, Father Tony Mfune, said some parishes are having many congregants hence the need to open new ones.

“For example, there is a long distance between Ekwendeni and Mpherembe hence the need for us to establish a parish at Mpherembe as well,” he said.

Father Mfune further said some areas have no houses for the clergy despite having churches.

“For instance, at Chibavi and Katoto, churches are there but there are no priest houses and even proper toilets,” he said, adding that even the buildings themselves need renovation.

About K3 million is expected to be raised during the fundraising dinner and dance.

The event which will start at 7 pm will be spiced up by a raffle draw, pottery selling and a performance by Chilimba Band.
