Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after brutual murder of a 38-year-old Chimwemwe Jere from Mwambose Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mpherembe in Mzimba.
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police, Cecilia Mfune, said the woman was found whilst wrapped in a blanket inside an unfinished building in the city.
On November 23, 2016, Jere left her home at Hilltop in Masasa area to visit her boyfriend within the same location, but she did not return.
Three days later at around 9:00 in the morning, Jere was found dead “in a decomposed state.”.
Apparently, the woman was in love relationship with the two suspects Bruce Mtegha, 38 and Edward Nkhoma, 45 and they allegedly they collaborated to kill the woman after they realized she was cheating them.
“Upon questioning them, it was learnt that both suspects were in a relationship with the victim and they killed her for that reason,” said the police spokesperson.
According to the police report, the victim was subjected to physical brawls before leaving her lifeless .
“Deep cuts were observed on the head and the left hand was chopped off but it was not found at the scene,” said Mfune
A postmortem conducted at Mzuzu Central Hospital indicated that her death was due to severe loss of blood.
Police spokesperson said the suspects are cooperating with the investigations.
Bruce Mtegha hails from Makwakwa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mpherembe in Mzimba while Edward Nkhoma is from Chikoma Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chulu in Kasungu.
The two will appear before the court of law and answer the charge of murder, contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code.
