Mzuzu’s Lady Pace signs to Trap Entertainment

Mzuzu-based up-and-coming female rapper Lady Pace will partially become a Blantyre resident as she has signed a recording deal with the commercial city’s Trap Entertainment.

Lady Pace, real name Mwayi Mphande, will be under the stable’s management for a period of two years, according to the contract, which is subject to renewal.

The 21-year-old femcee, who is making a mark on Malawi’s urban music scene with her rap songs ‘Weather’ and ‘Solo’, confirmed she had penned the deal.

According to the contract which the two parties have signed, the artist is expected to release two albums which will be promoted and marketed by the label.

Trap Entertainment, founded by youthful video producer Ron Cz, is also mandated to produce Lady Pace’s music videos.

Meanwhile, the rapper’s yet-to-be-released mixtape titled ‘Pace & the People’ will also be released under the stable, and as agreed, it will not be counted as part of the two albums stipulated in the agreement.

She told Nyasa Times Sunday night that the deal meant she was being appreciated as an artist and it will help her reach out to a larger audience.

“I wanna make it as a rapper, anywhere. I wanna let people know that everything is possible if you work hard, it doesn’t matter whether you [are] female or not,” said the artist, who last Friday performed at the Miss Blantyre 2013 event at Malawi Sun Hotel.

Asked if joining the Trap Entertainment family meant she would be moving to Blantyre, she replied: “Not really, of course I’ll be coming every now and then, but am still based in Mzuzu.”

Lady Pace started her music career as a rapper at the age of 15, but her first studio recording was in 2011 after she met renowned Malawian rapper Phyzix of ‘Cholapitsa’ who, alongside her family encouraged her to take music seriously.

Apart from her music career, the artist has a diploma in Human Resource Management obtained at Mzuzu University.

At Trap Entertainment, Lady Pace joins other rappers under the stable, namely Revolver, Stich Fray, Judagaga, Chavura and Hypa.
