Spokesperson for the National Statistics Office (NSO) Kingsley Manda said the office will need K14 billion for the 2018 census exercise.

“Before the actual census, we will have a pre-census 2018 Population and Housing census in 10 districts,” he said.

Manda also said for the first time, a computer technology will be used.

The government holds a Population and Housing census every 10 years.

The last census was held in 2008.

The Malawi Electoral Commission said recently it could not go ahead with the demarcation exercise of wards and constituencies because of lack of data in most areas in the country.
