New Malawi Cabinet out this month-end – State House

President Lazarus Chakwera will hire a new cabinet for his government at the end of this month, State House has announced.

Chakwera and Chilima reviewing Cabinet together

Speaking during a virtual State House press briefing, which included local and Malawian UK-based journalists in attendance, presidential press secretary Brian Banda, responding to a question on ministers’ public assessments, said: “There has been a delay on cabinet ministers’ assessments and contractual reviews due to the impact of Covid 19 pandemic

“But the president in consultation with his vice, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima is doing everything possible to have a new cabinet by the end of this month.”

Banda said Chakwera alongside Chilima is currently scrutinising his cabinet ministers’ performances.

However, when asked further asked what criteria will the President use as a yardstick to measure his ministers perfomance in line with the expected obligations and benchmarks, Banda said: “The powers to hire and fire cabinet ministers lies with the president.”

Banda added: “He appoints ministers using his prerogatives and therefore, if he so wishes, he can even hire and fire anyone into and out of the cabinet any time, any day without even waiting for the month end.

The Presidential spokesperson emphasised that the President doesn’t even need any yardsticks to appoint or relinquish anyone of duties as a cabinet minister.

“Having said that, let me point out that Dr. Chakwera, as servant leader is committed to serve Malawians in a transparent manner,”said Banda.

Speaking earlier on, director of communications at State House, who is also an executive assistance to the president, Sean Kampondeni briefed the journalists and the citizenry on the presidential diary engagements for the past week and also gave out a forecast on what the president will do this week.

Before Kampondeni, the newly appointed deputy director of communications at State House, Wezzie Kasambara took to the podium to introduce herself to media in her new portfolio.

She said: “I am so honoured to be here and I would like to thank the President for giving me this opportunity and I have joined a team of talented individuals.

“I am ready to serve the President and the people of Malawi but I appeal to you all for your support.”

Also in attendance was the State House head of publicity and Public Relations, Martha Chikuni.

  1. We want development not cabinet. Fix the damage caused by dpp and udf. We have no roads in all cities and we drive on potholes. Just try to drive from Kanengo to Area 25 you will see the poor road that Bingu constructed. It is now a nightmare. Drive to Kasungu. It’s a death trap. Malawians do not need a cabinet and whoever is there must deliver. That’s all bwana Chakwera.

  2. ma kadeti aiwala nsanga. dzulo paja zimatani. kunali kujudula mongozungulila okhaokha. mi of agriculture.
minister of irrigation minister of forest .minister of mining.kumangotalikitsa ministry imodzi yomweyo .zungo bwanji pomene dzulo lija munkangosekerera.
no wonder dziko limangoona maina ongobulika osaziwika kale. imagine cimlilenji. that was an insult to the malawians.
reshuffle every 3 to 4 months. koma osawaziwitsa amalawi why.

    khalani chete

  3. Chakwera needs as many people as much as possible apart from the advisor who even need to advise him on nhow to go to the toilet. This is probably the most dull president

    1. Honestly, the dullest President must be the one who befriended Chisale the bodyguard and big-time thief!!!!!!!!

    2. True. But only if you are looking at him with blue eyes, which is what don’t need in this country. So, rest in peace you blue guys.

  4. Chilima is appraising the cabinet and obviously he will appoint and Chakwera will endorse the names. Chakwera now becoming CHOLA BOY was Chilima.

  5. Useless why announce cabinet reshuffle in advance? Awa governance zero pa ten. Za administration izi sadziwa ataa. Mxii

    1. I have to agree.
In an effort to be liked by everyone, The president is making these amateur mistakes.
Mr. President, don’t give away your power.

There should never be an announced timeline for reshuffling the cabinet just to appease useless fools who are mainly UTM saboteurs and opposition. They will criticize your new cabinet as well, no matter who you pick unless they are UTM or opposition. They get the feeling of being alive by causing confusion and not by being positive contributors to your cause.

Some even proudly say “I went to demos to put you in office” or “I was busy making noise and kutukwana DPP on social media to help you” so obey our demands. hahahaha. But you, Sir, know the people who have always had your back and supported you no matter what. People who actually have good intentions for the country and are loyal to you.

This is your Prerogative. Hire and fire whoever you want at your pleasure at any given time. I’m sure by now you realize the multiple responsibilities and oversight the Minister’s have.

  6. Mr. President
Gaffer is not suitable for the Ministry of Mining. Kindly give him another ministry or just fire him. He is most useless minister. He is rarely found in office and if he is in office he seems not understand his job.

  7. Brian banda, what a stupid answer about the yardstick to be used.. like u got no brains.
Reminds be of SKC multiple answers to Zainab badawe on several questions during his interview, chilichonse amati its my constitutional right.

  8. There is no genuine consultation with your VP. Last time you had agreed a strong cabinet, yet aftee threats of revolt from central region MCP, you gave us this useless cabinet. Which didn’t even have a Ministry of Women and Children!! These discussions are useless, and you are losing the trust of the public. There is no real reason why for example Civic education should be a ministry separated from Information. Mtambo, Chimwendo, Minister of Health, Minister of Foreign Affairs should be thrown out.

  9. Bwana you are carrying too much baggage. Too much dead wood. Just no quality. There will be the cause of your downfall.

    1. Ndipo inu. This should have been one position. So many duplication just to creat positions to compensate loyalists.

  10. Mukaonetsetsa in Tonse Alliance Government from which party are the most corrupt Ministers in this Cabinet? So check it out.

  11. We are indeed waiting for a New Cabinet with new ideas, sober minds, integrity and selfless. Take out the top most corrupt Ministers those who have been involved in bribery, receiving kickbacks after giving contracts and orders, involved in procurement, receiving huge allowances. We have witnessed the fresh Covid 19 allowances in which some Ministers have been shielded and it is known that it is for the obvious reasons that the Minister is a conduit to take huge sums of money to the high office. Malawi will never develop with this kind of behaviour.
