Kachoka: New Miss Matofotofo

Constance Kachoka, 22, has automatically taken over the Miss True African Beauty for Lilongwe (Miss Matofotofo) crown after the dethroning of Frolence Banda and  says she will preserve the diginity of the pageant with a scandal free tenure.

Kachoka was runners up to the title winner in a contest held last month in Lilongwe and  replaces Banda who was stipped of her crown on Monday following allegations of bedding a married man.

“Its come as a surprise. I am happy and humbled and I hope I will be able to carryout and achieve the charity work that I plan to undertake during my reign as Miss Matofotofo,” she told Nyasa Times in an online interview.

Kachoka said she was single but has no loose morals.

The new Matofotofo who works for Forever Living in the marketing department said she was aware of the rules governing the pegenat that demands the title holder to be of good character.

Kachoka said she will abide by the terms “toavoid doing things that can tarnish the Miss True African Queen beauty pageant.”

However, the Miss Matofoto conceded that celebrity status normally becomes too “heavy” on the young women who usually lose focus on what is important.

She said to have the celebrity status is a “great challenge” but vowed to preserve the values.

The dethroned Banda, who stays in the capital city’s Area 18B, told Nyasa Times denied having an affair with the man, Joel Phiri, who is her workmate at Mota-Engil. She refuted the sex scandal but said she was aware of a conspiracy to discredit her honour by another jealous woman.

Dethroning her, the organizers have emphasized that: “This does not in any way mean that Ms Banda is guilty of any wrong doing, but have done this to uphold the dignity of the show founded on strict principles of tradition and culture.”

Miss Matofotofo was launched to  identify the true ‘bootylicious’ beauties of Africa as opposed to Westerner’s definition of beauty for tall, slim, medium bust, pencil lips, slightly pronounced hips, a high cheekbone plus and  element of intelligence.
