NFRA suspends Chief Executive Officer Kayongo over missing 13 trucks of maize
The board of trustees of National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) has suspended its Chief Executive Officer, Brenda Kayongo pending further investigation and disciplinary process on the missing of 13 trucks of maize worth K112.5 million.
It was reported in October last year of the missing trucks carrying 7,500 bags of maize, which NFRA Board chairperson, Dennis Kalekeni says Kayongo’s suspension is to pave way for investigations on the matter and thereafter a disciplinary action will be instituted.

Kalekeni told Nyasa Times that “there were elements of negligence and incompetence from members of staff” in the way the transportation of the maize was handled — hence the suspension”.
He disclosed that the first person to be suspended on the matter was the acting director of operations, Simon Banda in November last year while the transporter Smolet Kachere of Kachere Agriculture Trading was arrested by police and is currently on bail.
NFRA had contracted businessman Kachere to transport the maize through his firm, Kachere Agriculture Trading, but it did not reach the NFRA but the agency managed to recover 600 bags of the maize, after one of the missing trucks was found in Kasungu in November.
Kachere was also summoned for questioning by a joint Parliamentary Committee on the matter

Malawi, a tiny country in the SADC region but with a burgeoning population that exceeds it’s capacity. It has been blessed or perhaps cursed to get leaders that have penchant for stealing with reckless abandon.
It all started with Bakili Muluzi taking over from Kamuzu. Bingu Muntharika followed with a bit of economic development, and came in Mama Joyce Banda, she just messed up everything. So she took over from where Bakili left, and that followed the ushering in of a clueless Peter Muntharika. A one term guy, I have no idea whether there was anything he knew going on around him.
After so much negative publicity about his leadership then came in the Assemblies of God preacher to be president of the Malawi. The acceptance speech he gave at BICC was enough to inspire even his fondest naysayers. I remember his speech at the funeral of Magufuli of Tanzania, it was like no other leader had a better speech. Mesmerising.
Pa ground, too tooo toooo!!! The guy has no clue he is leading a country. Nothing, nada, zero.
With all these leaders knowing how better to circumvent the system so that it favours their thieving appetite it’s no wonder the Malawi CEO’s of various parastals waste no time to steal anything and everything.
In Malawi theft is institutionalised. The president is a thief, the vice is a thief, ministers are thieves, deputy ministers are thieves, PS’s are thieves and enablers of corruption. This country is dead.
When father’s and mother’s are stealing what do sons and daughters do? They follow suit. It’s a never ending vicious circle. What a hopeless country ☺️🤣.
