Ng’ambi’s Platinum crash out of CAF Confederations Cup

South Africa’s Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Platinum Stars ambitions of progressing to the knockout stage of the 2017 CAF Confederations Cup are over after losing 2-0 to MC Alger away at the Stade du 5 Julliet 1962 Stadium in Algeria on Friday night.

Flames international midfielder Robert Ng’ambi was in the first team was later substitutes in the 76th minutes and was replaced with Benson Shilonhgo.

The home side opened the scoresheet inside the opening 15 minutes after they were awarded a penalty when Zakarya Mansouri was adjudged to have been fouled by a Platinum stars player inside the box.

Abderrahane Hachoud stepped up to convert the spot kick to make it 1-0 in favour of the home side.

The visitors however fought hard and pilled pressure on the home side in search of an equaliser but to no avail as the home side defended jealously.

It was Nekkache who completely broke the hearts of Platinum Stars players during the stoppage time when he released a 20 yards thunderbolt to seal his team’s victory.

Stars have only managed to collect two points from five games during the campaign and they are remaining with a single formality match toconclude the group stages.

They drew against MC Alger in the first leg at home before losing 4-2 and 3-0 to Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland and CS Sfaxien respectively.

MC Alger are leading Group B with 11 points while the Dikwena’s as Platinum Stars are famously called anchors the table with two points.
