No fee reduction on Malawi passport -Immigration

Malawians will continue dipping deep in the pocket and pay an exorbitant K15, 100 passport fees as rumours that the travelling document has been reduced to K7, 000 are false, immigration official has said.

Since ascendancy of President Joyce Banda to the country’s top job rumours were rife that the passport has gone back to K7, 000.

But according to Immigration spokesperson Peter Kakatera, the department has no immediate plans to reduce fees of the travelling document.

” We are also surprised of such rumours, the department has not at any time discussed that, it’s surprising that instead of the rumour originating from inside the department its coming from outside,” he said

Meanwhile with the new system its taking 20 days to process an ordinary passport.

Express passport is still pegged at K25,000.

A good percentage of Malawians survive on 1 dollar a day and having a passport is a nightmare.
