Nomads, Caps win penalty shootout to reach Zambezi final

Mighty Wanderers will face Zimbabwe’s Cap United   in the finals of Zambezi Soccer Challenge Cup.

Both teams secured the final berth on Saturday after winning through post-match penalties.

Caps were the first to beat Silver Strikers while Nomads condemned their archrivals Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The blues won against Bullets in the spot-kick contest after Wanderers goalie Richard Chiuwa saved kicks from veteran Fischer Kondowe and  James Chilapondwa.

Wanderers had good penalty kicks from Abraham Kamwendo. Mayeso Mpganje and Jacob Ngwira to put the team through.

In the first game, the visitors booted out Silver Strikers 4-3 in the penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw in the 90 minutes.

The Bankers were first to score in the 20th minute through Frank Bands before the Zimbabwe side equalized in the 23th minute courtesy of Malawian Ishamel Thindwa,who connected an intelligent corner kick from Gerald Papa Phiri.

In the penalties, the Bankers missed their penalties through Blessings Tembo and Young Chimodzi while the visitors missed their penalty through Gerald Phiri.
