Nomads drawn against Blantyre United in Malawi Presidential Cup
Only two Super League giants Mighty Wanderers and Blantyre United (BT U) have been paired together while the rest of the giants have been kept apart in the 2013 edition of the Presidential Football Cup conducted on Monday.
The draw, conducted at Chiwembe offices of Football Association of Malawi (FAM) in Blantyre which was led by FAM’s competitions Officer Gomezgani Zakazaka, saw Nomads being drawn against Blantyre United in what would be a mouth-watering commercial city derby.
Big Bullets will have an easy task against an Under-20 side Griffin Young Stars while Silver Strikers have also a home ground advantage against Banyamulenge from Salima district.
Another capital city giant Civo United will open this year’s Presidential assignment with Hard Knockers, as the Cup holders Blue Eagles have what looks like a walk over against Ntchisi Champions.
However, the area 3 out-fit should brace for a tough ride as they have to travel to Ntchisi District to face the little fancied team.
Kamuzu Barracks will have to travel to Nkhota-kota to face the champion from that district.
Epac FC have been paired against the champion from Kasungu district while Mafco FC will travel to Dedza district to be hosted by Dedza Yong Soccer.
Azam Tigers will be at home against the champion from Balaka district, as Red Lions have a fixture against the champion from Machinga district.
From the northern region, Moyale Barracks will date Likoma Champions at home, as Mzuzu United takes on Mzuni.
Zakazaka said the games will kick-off this coming weekend in a knock-out basis.
He also disclosed that the winning team will go home with K10 million, while the losing finalists will receive K5 million.
Teams who will make it into the semi-finals will receive K500, 000, as those that will cruise into the quarter finals will get K250, 000.
FAM said it will communicate on the on the venues for the games.
