Nomads fans give GS Kanyenda 5 days ultimatum to resign

Mighty Wanderers F.C supporters have given the team’s General Secretary David Kanyenda to resign or face unspecified action within a period of five days.

This was disclosed at a highly charged meeting held by central region supporters on Thursday afternoon at the Lilongwe community Centre ground attended by hundreds of Nomads supporters including their national top fan Yona Malunga.

A concerned Nomads senior supporter Kim Kamau blew the whistle in an interview with Nyasa Times on Tuesday claiming that the supporters are not happy with Kanyenda accusing him of being “foul mouthed”.

“What we want is that Mr. Kanyenda should resign because he speaks irresponsibly. His statements have created a lot of tension between our club, FAM and fellow clubs” said one of the supporters at the meeting.

The supporters then started chanting “Kanyenda achoke! Achoke.”

Speaking at the meeting, Malunga who travelled all the way from Blantyre, apologised to all Nomads central region supporters and stakeholders “for whatever sins” Kanyenda committed.

“I am apologizing to all Nyerere supporters who were offended in one way or the other by Mr. Kanyenda,” said Malunga.

“In everything we do we need to follow procedures. If you supporters from the centre and the north want Kanyenda to resign just write a letter and make sure it is signed by many people I think it will carry more weight,” he said.

“I have heard that some of our fans were contemplating on a move to abandon the club which I suggest is not good. We are real Nyerere and no one can force us to leave,” he added.

Kanyenda is being accused of telling the media that Wanderers belongs to people from the southern region.

According to the supporters, Kanyenda has been overreacting in various issues where he went as far as accusing some of Bullets FC fans of having a hand in the murder of Polytechnic student Robert Chasowa.

Meanwhile, all the regional Wanderers supporters committees are supposed to hold a joint meeting Friday or Saturday to map the way forward.
