Nomads release programme for golden jubilee celebrations

Mighty Wanderers Football Club officials have finally announced the final programme for the club’s 50 years anniversary celebrations.

According to a press release issued by the club and signed by the club chairman George Chamangwana, the celebrations are expected to start this Saturday May 12.

The celebrations will start with a curtain raising game involving former players of the blues and former players of Bullets F.C before the actual ceremonial match between Mighty Wanderers and Red Lions at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

“We are inviting all supporters and football fans to come in large numbers on Saturday to watch a friendly game between Mighty Wanderers and Red Lions to commence our celebrations that will see the climax on July 27, 2012,” reads the statement.

Malawi’s local Reggae Kings Black Missionaries are expected to set the ball rolling with a gig this Friday night at Wanderers Club from 6 p.m. at a fee of K 1, 000 per individual.

Meanwhile, the Nomad’s executive has pleaded with all well wishers to forward their contributions towards the celebrations.

“Looking at the financial constraints, we would like to appeal for financial support from all well wishers and corporate world in the country and abroad to help us organize the events for both on Saturday, May 12, 2012 and Saturday, July 27, 2012,” reads the statement.

According to Chamangwana, all monetary contributions can be deposited in the following account: FDH Bank, Umoyo Branch, 8500000088961, account name: Wanderers Football Club Events.

Wanderers Football Club was formed in 1962 and has successfully contributed to the development of football in Malawi.

The team has, in the 50 years of its existence, produced football legends and successes for the national football teams.
