Nomads trio at Zim's Platinum FC, to miss Civo clash

Mighty Wanderers will miss the services of their three key players a head of their big encounter against Civo United in the elite TNM super League on Saturday scheduled to take place in Balaka.

The three players, who are in Zimbabwe to attend trials at Platinum FC are their captain and central back Foster ‘Zagaf’ Namwera, Allan Kamanga and left winger Innocent Jere.

The trio left Blantyre for Harare on Monday together with former Escom United skipper Chikondi ‘Farook’ Likwemba.

The Nomads team manager Mac Hodges Chunga confirmed with Nyasa Timesabout the development but assured the Lali-Lubani fans that come Saturday they will set fire the Area 3 giants even with the absence of the three players.

Namwela: In Zimbabwe

“It is true that Allan, Foster and Innocent are in Zimbabwe to attend trials at Platinum FC, which is coached by former Wanderers coach  Raman Ghumbo. We have replacements for the three players in our game on Saturday against Civo and Nyerere fans should not panic at all,” said Chunga.

Chunga stressed that Civo inflicted pain on them in the first round as they went down 2-1.

“We still have the anger to revenge the defeat which we suffered in Lilongwe. I can urge all Nomads fans in Blantyre to converge at Balaka in large numbers because this will be pay back time foe Civo,” said Chunga.

However, Civo United mentor ‘Sir’ Alex Masanajala has vowed to continue where they left in the first round by beating the Nomads for the second time.

“We have recovered from the defeat we suffered in the hands of Blue Eagles in the Standard Bank Cup. Our focus now is to grab the league after we failed to secure Standard Bank Cup,” said Masanjala.

The cool-calm coach also warned Wanderers not to get carried with their 2-1 victory  last Sunday against Escom United in Balaka.

“We are fully geared for them and people in Balaka should expect classic soccer because even our colleagues play good football,” said Masanjala, who will also miss the services of  John ‘Kintu’ Lanjesi and Joseph ‘Dudu’  Kachule who are still nursing injuries.

What makes this game so interesting is that both sides are sharing second position on the log table but with the capital city giants ahead of the commercial city out-fit on goal aggregate.

Civo have netted 24 goals while the Nomads have kissed the net 21 times. The Nomads squad is blended with quality and experience- Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo, Nafe Misasa, Bongani Kaipa, Innocent Dzimbiri, Maxwell Chirwa and ililani Zonda.

In the other camp in Area 3, Masanjala has his sophisticates like Emmanuel ‘Siyeni’ Zoya, Onani Nsengwa, Patrick Gunde, Pililani Makupe and Dave Ng’ambi for selection.

Twenty four hours after watching Wanderers versus Civo match, people from Balaka will also have another chance to witness another thrilling encounter between limping Big Bullets and Red Lions.

The People’s team, who are currently stuck on position 12 on the log table, should expect a tough ride in Balaka as the soldiers have proved to be strong in Balaka.
