Presidential Spokesperson Dr. Hetherwick Ntaba has accused the media practitioners and Civil Society Organization Leaders (CSO) for attacking President Bingu wa Mutharika and his government and also plotting to overtake the leadership of Malawi.
Ntaba was speaking on Thursday through the state controlled public broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation TV (MBC TV).
He echoed that the government has all the evidence that the CSO leaders have planned a coup and massive national wide demonstrations come March 14th, 2012.
“We have collaborated information and evidence that NGO’S and opposition leaders are meeting to prepare for the March 14th vigil where they will demand a referendum or demand that the president resign by a specific deadline failing which they say there will be national wide demonstrations and chaos until they force a regime change,” narrated Ntaba.
Ntaba also accused the CSO leaders of paying some media practitioners to write bad things about Mutharika’s government.
“They (CSO’s) are also paying media personnel to write negative stories about the President and his government” he said.
According to the presidential spokesperson, the CSO are collaborating with international colleague from Zambia, South Africa among others in organizing the March 14th demonstrations.
He also stated that there are some opposition leaders who are paying for the organization and preparations of the demonstrations.
Ntaba has however asked the CSO leaders to repent and beg God’s forgiveness for the sins they have committed.
“They should actually now repent, they should confess to the God Almighty above and ask God for forgiveness,” said Ntaba.
He said this is the only way that can make Malawi to continue being a peaceful and God fearing Nation.
CSO leaders have maintained there stand that they are not aware of any planned demonstrations of March 14th.
Police also denied receiving any communication from the CSO’s that they are planning to stage demonstrations on the 14th of March.
