Nyika Progressive Secondary school calls for support from alumni
Nyika Progressive Secondary School, a private school in Rumphi, has called on her alumni for financial support citing a horde of financial challenges the school if facing.
The school has since setup a committee which is working towards organizing a fundraiser at the institution on November 6 next month.
One of the school’s directors Chidumba Mkandawire told Nyasa Times on Tuesday that they “felt it was important that they call for support from the alumni.”
Mkandawire said much as the fundraiser will help realize funds for the school in general, a good part of the money they will get will go towards the roofing of the school’s recreation hall.
“The recreation hall will become our major incoming generating asset once completed,” said Mkandawire. “It will be the largest at Rumphi Boma.”
According to information Nyasa Times has gathered the roofing is expected to cost the institution about K7 million.
However, Mkandawire added they intend to use only about K3 million they will realize from the fundraiser for the project.
He said they already “have about K4 million set aside for the same.”
Nyika Progressive Secondary School started in 1999 and according to Mkandawire over 5 000 people have gone through its corridors.
