Nyondo’s Nasaf calls on Malawians to get rid of ‘honourable disaster creators’ in 2014

National Salvation Front (Nasaf) has urged Malawians to get rid of ‘honurable disaster creators’ in next year’s elections and says it is the only party that has the will, ability and determination to build mechanisms that can enforce the many promises politicians make to dupe the electorate to vote for them.

The party’s president James Nyondo told Nyasa Times on Thursday that it is time for Malawians to work themselves out of poverty, hopelessness and despair.

“Our nation needs radical measure to fix the numerous challenges afflicting it. We can’t continue to wage war using survivalist methods against poverty, ignorance, hunger and unemployment,” he said.

Nyondo, who miserably lost the 2009 presidential elections, launched Nasaf about two years ago and is determined to get to power in next year’s tripartite elections. Prior to the 2009 elections, he was popularly known for his aggressive talk against public funds embezzlement.

“The consumption habits of our political leaders are the biggest obstacle to national development. Our political parties have built a system that justfies their consumption of the bulk of our resources.

“They know the state of our economy better than anyone else. They know that close to half of our budgetary needs come from donor nations who account to their citizens for every penny they give out yet they abuse the funds at the expense of ordinary citizens,” said Nyondo.

The US trained business wizard from Chitipa district said that his party proposes to all Malawians that 2014 should be a watershed for the nation.

He emphasized that Malawi needs new leaders at every level from the president, cabinet ministers to Members of Parliament and ward councillors.

Nyondo said: “These architects of the nation’s disasters will always sabotage and vote against including into our system punitive measures to curb political prostitution, reduce the size of cabinet, reduce and eliminate the many perks political leaders award themselves plus several other good policies.

“To this end we urge all Malawians to remove all these ‘honourable disaster creators’ in May next year because they have a track record of sabotaging the nation’s progress.”

He pledged that once Nasaf takes over power in 2014, they will put in place procedures that will audit lifestlyes of everyone with access to state resources.

“The disturbing revelations of thieving, misappropriation of state resources and the unexplained sources of wealth of every retiring president demand that we take radical measures to stop this habit of lacency by our first citizens,” he said.
