Osman, widely known as OG Issa, also commended the cordial working relationship existing between law enforcers and communities in Chiradzulu district.

He said the donation was a fulfillment of the promises he made during the campaign period prior to the 2014 tripartite elections.

“Police officers face numerous challenges in terms of resources such as vehicles and fuel, but they are still doing commended job and they need more support to ably excute their expected duties.

“It is also encouraging to note that the communities are forth coming and have advanced community policing in this area, ” said Osman before officially handing over the vehicle to Commissioner of Police responsible for the South Demister Chigwenembe.

The parliamentarian then urged corporate entities and all stakeholders to support Malawi Police Service with necessary materials to strengthen community policing in the country.

He also promised to construct a health facility in the area and claimed that funds for the project are readily available.

In his remarks, Chigwenembe described the donation as a clear sign of patriotism and commitment to advancing security in the country.

The Commissioner also hailed community police groups and the general public for their contribution in stopping crimes.

He also urged officers at Montfort Police Unit to put the vehicle to good use so that it serves the surrounding communities better.

“The vehicle is for the community and it belongs to the people of this area. Don’t use for personal gain. With this vehicle officers will have no excuse in terms of arriving late at crime scenes,” said Chigwenembe.

Until these politics of donations and, Malawi will never move forward. Who told you the role of the MP is to make donations?? Where did he get the moneys for the vehicle? What if he just used the Constituency Development Fund (CDF)? How will he account for CDF? MPs are there to play a legislative role in parliament as well as provide checks and balances to the other arms of government – not donations please! Are they donors? Mxiiii

Simply shameful. The police? Its different if its a charity organisation or maybe even a hospital. The police? Simply shameful? Will it even be in a position to police OG Issa in case of crime? Simply shameful. The police should not be allowed or allow itself to receive gifts from individuals. Its simply shameful.
