The report outlines a sustainability agenda centred on creating value for the organisation and its stakeholders, while reinforcing the company’s operational resilience in a shifting business environment.

Speaking at the unveiling in Lilongwe, Old Mutual Malawi Group Chief Executive Officer Tavona Biza said the company’s sustainability investments during the year had translated into measurable business gains.

“Our sustainability investments in 2025 delivered tangible returns through reduced operational risks, enhanced efficiency, and strengthened competitive positioning,” Biza said.

He credited the company’s governance frameworks with helping it manage a complex operating landscape shaped by regulatory changes, political transition and broader economic volatility.

Reflecting on the year, Biza characterised 2025 as one of the most difficult periods in Malawi’s recent history, but said the company had nonetheless delivered a solid set of results.

“As I reflect on 2025, I am proud to share that Old Mutual Malawi delivered solid performance in what was undeniably one of the most challenging years in our nation’s recent history,” he said.

Key 2025 Investment Highlights

According to the report, Old Mutual Malawi remitted K50 billion to the Malawi Government through the Malawi Revenue Authority during the year.

The company also supported technical and vocational training for more than 100 people across three institutions, with priority placed on trades including plumbing, electrical installation, tailoring and fashion design.

On the humanitarian front, the company contributed to response efforts following Cyclones Ana, Freddy and Gombe, supported the national cholera response, and assisted with the recent repatriation of 140 Malawians from South Africa.

Stakeholder Reaction

Archibald Chikavanga, Chief of Party at CARE International in Malawi, who stood in for the organisation’s Country Director at the event, commended the report, describing it as both positive and significant given its alignment with CARE’s own strategic priorities in addressing the challenges facing many Malawians.
