PAC takes on DPP over intimidating messages

Quasi religious body, the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has warned the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) against intimidating its members following a high level meeting recently in Blantyre where some delegates asked President Peter Mutharika to resign.

In a strongly worded letter, PAC chairman Felix Chingota and publicity secretary Peter Mulomole warned the government that it has capacity to cause civil strife should the government or ruling party agents continue to intimidate its members.

PAC says it is worried with the current trend when in a democracy, those with dissenting views are viewed as rebels rather than partners in democracy.

“Such actions are counter productive and can cause civil strife,” says the letter to the DPP leadership and government.

The letter says the tendency is dictatorial and a threat to democracy.

“This is coming at a time when the government is failing to deliver,” says the letter in part.

PAC is therefore reminding the DPP and government that Malawi is in democracy and such threats and intimidations cannot be tolerated.

The grouping says some members are refusing to report the matter to police as they think the law enforcers are colluding with those involved in the intimidations and threats through the telephone calls and Whatsapp messages.

DPP has a history of abductions and killings.

WELL DONE PAC, FIRST DO NOT TARGET MR FELIX CHINGOTA. IT IS PAC SPEAKING THROUGH THAT LETTER. IT IS VERY VERY TRUE THAT THIS DIESAL, PETROL PALIBE {DPP} GOVT, IS MORE INTIMIDATING & IMPOSING FEAR ON THEIR POLITICAL RIVALS. LIKE WHAT CHARLES MCHACHA SAID IN CHIKHWAWA. HE SAID THAT THEY DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANY POLITICAL PARTY HOLDING POLITICAL RALLIES IN THOSE AREAS. IS THIS BEING DEMOCRATIC? U R SELF CONTRADICTING. U TALK EVIL OF UR OPPONENT, BUT U R DOING THE SAME EVIL. R WE CHILDREN SO THAT U HAVE TO THINK ON OUR BEHALF? PAC IS THERE… Read more »

PAC good job,do not leave any stone untouched, you have won uncompromising respect from the masses of our country please keep it on as democracy is part and parcel of our human rights.I remember when I was in the executive council of the PDP Youth League in Tanzania Masauko Chipembere used to tell me that he had high regards for young people like the late Prof.Attati Mphakati,Prof.Thandika Mkandawire and Prof.Peter Muthalika and he stressed that even if himself and his colleagues would perish in exile,he had all the hopes that these young men will play pivotal role in the liberation of… Read more »

PAC has the capacity to cause civil strife!!!! My foot… That’s the last thing these people should think about… You are taking on the government over intimidating messages and at the same time intimidating it! If you cause a civil strife,Dr Chingota and friends, who suffers? Is it not the commoner? Are you serious about this? If you are,its time you declared you want to fight the government at the expense of the poor masses…. You don’t care what happens to them during the civil strife!!!!

Don’t forget you PAC guys that you are the ones who never wanted to deliver the resolutions of the meeting which took place in Blantyre, instead you had to hide the whole truth of the meeting which you had , it seems you had some kickbacks.

In Malawi it looks like the minority want to rule. PAC is a small grouping and obviously full of the angry people we saw soon after 20 May Election results. These people continue to try to find ways of discrediting a legit government. its understandable that noise from 63 per cent would be loud enough to sound true. Am amazed that most of the people killed in Mzuzu were thieves who had wanted to steal but were turned martyrs after being killed but people don’t want to face the truth to tilt political balances,
