Parents blamed for child prostitution
Family Planning Association of Malawi (Fpam) has raised a red flag over child prostitution in the northern border district of Karonga.

Fpam said that parents were to blame for the increased child prostitution within the district.
Speaking during a quarterly reveiew meeting , Fpam communitu reproductive health promoter, Micheal Gundaphiri said many girls are sent to sell merchandise at odd hours.
“Most sex workers here are girls below the age of 18, which is a sign that parents are not doing their job to safeguard these children,” he said.
Karonga Sex Workers Association chairperson Mable Mhango said there is need for government intervention in sensitising parents to take their responsibility seriously.
Assistant district social welfare officer Kaford Kamwela said they are aware of the issue and they will soon hold a stakeholders meetings to map the way forward.
