Parliamentary committee to summon NRB over removal of features on national ID

Members of Parliament’s Defence and Security Committee say they will investigate reports that the National Registration Bureau (NRB) wants to remove some features on the national Identity card.

This follows a letter which Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives wrote the committee, alleging that NRB is planning to remove the micro chip and the expiry date on the IDs.
Sylvester Namiwa, Executive Director for CDEDI said the committee should act on the matter swiftly.
Ralph Jooma, Chairperson for the parliamentary committee said the has received the letter.
He said the committee will summon the leadership of the bureau to hear its side on the allegations.
The leadership of the bureau is yet to comment on the matter.
