Pemphero Mphande Cautions the North, Questions M’mbelwa’s Silence
Social media influencer Pemphero Mphande has sent a strong warning to people in the Northern Region, urging them not to be fooled by politicians using tribal tricks to get votes. He also questioned Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa V for staying silent on the real problems facing the North.
Speaking from Mzuzu, Mphande said it is wrong for people to vote for presidential candidates just because they have chosen running mates from the North.
“Only a foolish Northerner will vote for Chakwera and MCP just because he picked a Northerner as running mate. The same goes for Kabambe with UTM and APM with DPP. We’ve seen this before and nothing has changed,” said Mphande.
“Northerners are not stupid. I am a Northerner—and I know we vote based on ideas, not tribe.”
Mphande then turned to traditional leader M’mbelwa, asking why he is quiet on key issues affecting the region.
“M’mbelwa is one of the most powerful chiefs in Malawi. But instead of standing up for the North, he is busy praising politicians. Where is the international airport? Where is Mombera University? Why is Mzuzu still underdeveloped?” he asked.
“If Kabambe wins, M’mbelwa will praise him too. This is not leadership—it’s survival.”
He warned that the vice presidency has never helped the North in any meaningful way.
“The vice presidency is a useless position. Northerners must stop celebrating it as if it brings development. It doesn’t. Politicians just use it to win your vote, then vanish until the next election,” said Mphande.
Mphande said on September 16, the North must make a wise choice based on which presidential candidate has a real plan for Malawi—not based on tribal tricks or empty promises.
“We are voting for a President who will fix this economy and bring real development—not just to the North, but to the whole country. The North remembers. And this time, it will not forget,” he said.
