People’s Party ropes in Malema’s consultant to enhance 2014 bid

The Peoples’ Party of state vice President Joyce Banda has drafted into its ranks a former marketing consultant to the suspended African National Congress (ANC) Youth League president Julius Malema as one way of boosting its chances in the 2014 general polls, Nyasa Times can reveal.

A political novice, Dickens Tchuwa, who wants to stand as an MP for Nkhata Bay North West, has been appointed Mzuzu Deputy Treasurer,  thereby qualifying him to attend  PP’s  debut convention in June where he is expected to be propped up into a policy making position.

While working in South Africa as Head of Operations for Marketing SA, Tchuwa helped in the drafting of a marketing plan for Julius Malema, which saw him triumph as ANC Youth President at the 2007 Nelspruit Young African National Congress.

Tchuwa: Worked for Malema

He urged PP to continue engaging the youths saying young people are full of energy, optimism, analytical skills and enthusiasm good for development of political parties.

“I hope even your June convention will also look at combining new and old talents in big positions  as a way of strengthening the party to heights beyond boundaries as well as empowering the youth to become more active in political careers,” Tchuwa said.

He said he accepted PP’s offer because its leadership is democratic and open minded.

“One thing that I like coming People’s Party President Joyce Banda, is the ‘We’ will and ‘our’ Government dictions or use of words. This show how democratic is she.  Any President that says ‘My’ Government or ‘I’ will is not democratic. In a sound and proper democratic government it’s not proper for a Head of State to say my Government or even I will,” Tchuwa explained.

He berated most political parties in Malawi for ignoring youths into their ranks.

“Such undermining is the reason why most of political parties in Malawi lose popularity within 5 to 10 years of formation because the youth are not actively involved in the top decision making,” Tchuwa noted.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Marketing Management from South Africa and is currently doing a Post Graduate Course with the Chartered Institute of Marketing through the University of Malawi Polytechnic.

At his home village at Traditional Authority Timbiri in Mpamba, Nkhata Bay district, Tchuwa has initiated many community projects through his Australian friend Beryl Schairer, such as the construction of shallow wells.
