Peoples Party UK wing donates computers to their party

Members of Malawi’s ruling Peoples’ Party (PP) based in the United Kingdom have donated eight Dell and HP computers to the governing party to help strengthen and improve communication between its head office and regional offices.

The presentation of the donation took place in Manchester City on the sidelines of the Conservative Party’s annual conference where PP acting Secretary General, Paul Maulidi, was an invited guest.

The wing’s Publicity Secretary, Kondwani Bowoyeke Munthali, told Nyasa Times they decided to help their party after hearing reports of lack of computers and “felt we could help in alleviating the problem.”

The wing was responding to requests made by the party’s acting secretary general when he opened PP’s Mzuzu office a month ago.

Hannington Gondwe, PP UK wing Chairperson said he hoped the donation would help smoothen communication between the head office and regional offices by enabling timely sharing of information.

He further encouraged well-wishers both in Malawi and in the Diaspora to donate to the party saying every donation was of paramount importance as the party starts campaigning for next year’s polls.

Edith Parker, the wing’s Secretary General also echoed the sentiments saying “technology plays an integral part in communication and as a wing we appreciate the importance of having communication tools like a computer as a means of disseminating information.”

Several other speakers including Organising Secretary of the Wing Rowland Mahata and Religious Affairs Director Pastor Gombe  reiterated that the wing would intensify fundraising activities to ensure it helps the party in as many ways as possible and assist President Joyce Banda retain power in 2014.

The speakers also said the wing was hopeful and prays for successful and violence free tripartite elections next year.

And on his part, Maulidi was grateful for the donation and encouraged the wing to continue proactively supporting the party so that it wins next year’s polls with a landslide.

The PP UK wing has in the last 12 months donated a 56-seater executive coach and 200 footballs amongst other things to the party.
